Episode 2: Boredom is Our Kryptonite
“Welcome back to Grandma Has ADHD! In this second part of our inaugural episode, hosts Jami Shapiro and Justin Shepherd dive deeper into the fascinating
The OG “Original Grandma” describes her life with Jami and Justin since discovering like her daughter and grandchild, she too shared the hereditary trait of ADHD.
Nothing has turned me around as much as my daughter’s “diagnosis “ of ADHD. I have been on medication since I was 17 for depression. Not one therapist, psychiatrist, or mental health worker has ever brought up or discussed the issue of ADHD. I have tried many crafts, taking classes, purchasing the necessary tools to pursue the craft further, only to lose interest. One of my coworkers called it the “thrill of the chase”. My social anxiety is through the roof. I rsvp with full intentions of going somewhere, and then I call the day of to cancel, because by that time my anxiety level has truly given me a headache or stomach ache.
BD, (before diagnosis) I beat up on myself, but since the diagnosis, I think about different occurrences in my life and can relate them to what I have read about ADHD, and believe me, there’s plenty, in addition to people I have discussed it with. It’s not all bad, things like never closing doors, or drawers. Granted, it’s annoying, but funny when I noticed my daughter does the same thing. I am a lot more forgiving of myself, still indecisive at times.
